Translation of Alicia 2.0 Preview by GameMeca – Info and Screenshots – Part 2

The long-due post in a chain I began last year (wow, that sounds like really long ago!) and is finally going to get completed. This is translation of a preview of Alicia Online 2.0 aka 앨리샤 2.0 on a Korean gaming website GameMeca. The Part 1 you can read here, and there’s also another post about Alicia 2.0 Frontier test with lots of screenshots and info. The preview has lots of info and screenshots, and i did my best to translate it. It’s not a literal word-by-word translation, you see, as i had to use 3 different translation tools to get the best picture of what is it they’re writing about, but i’m positively sure i preserved most of the info. So, here it goes.

How to setup a local copy of WordPress with XAMPP

A “local copy” means that WordPress is running right there on your very computer, and not on some remote hosting. Why would anyone need that? And why is it even discussed in this – supposedly – gaming blog? Well, as you might have noticed if you’re a frequent visitor to this blog, I have migrated to WordPress very recently. I am a gaming blogger, so I assume other bloggers could be considering migrating their blogs to WordPress as well and might find this post useful. Also, if I not write this down and then forget something, it would be a total pain in the ass to data-mine the Internets for the same solutions again. So here it goes.

ChickGeekGames 2.0 – now with WordPress!

God, was this hard, you have no idea! But here it is – a new design, new categories and tags structure, new hosting and new toys for me to play with, heh heh. Okay, what is going to change now? Previously, ChickGeekGames was a part of Blogger – a free blogging platform owned by Google – so it was hosted on their servers and ran on their software. Now, ChickGeekGames has been moved to WordPress, which is a free blogging software, and i had it installed on a separate (not Google) hosting. Now, if you came and something isn’t working, then either i do maintenance at that very moment, or something is broken and i’m not avare of that, so you just leave a comment somewhere – doesn’t matter where, i get them all anyway. Phew! Now, what else is new, besides the impeding doom of breaking something down? Unfortunately, Google Friends Connect didn’t make it, anyone who used that – you’ll have to subscribe to RSS now. Amazing Nyan Cat Cosplay by Anshie – Nyaaaaan!

I’m pretty sure there are very few people who haven’t heard of the Nyan Cat meme, but here’s something new – a Nyan Cat cosplay! These amazing colourful costume and make-up are really hitting the point, if Nyan Cat would’ve ever made it to manga or anime, i imagine that’s pretty much how she would’ve looked like. The Nyan Cat costume was made by Anshie, photos shot by ChikakoUchiha. Anshie is not only a German cosplayer, but also a fellow gamer and she even works as a video game tester. Be sure to visit Anshie’s Facebook page, Anshie’s cosplay website or her DeviantArt account - or all of them, because there are lots of other cool cosplay project to check out.

Off-Topic: How to watch NetFlix from outside of USA

Not a gaming post, you see, but i thought it might be useful so i’ll just leave it here… You’ve probably heard of Netflix, right? That fancy video-on-demand streaming service americans are used to hype about, making all of us non-americans super jealous, because presumably you can’t use Netflix unless you’re in USA. Well, there are a lot of guides on how to bypass that restriction, but most of them talks about methods that aren’t cheap and/or aren’t easy. Just a few days ago the collective brain of my household was able to figure out how to get our hands on Netflix cheap AND easy at the same time. So i’m writing this general directions in case someone else needs them. Oh, and the best thing – all of this is perfectly legal. (more…)

Amazing Guild Wars 2 Shining Blade Cosplay by Enayla

First of all, i must say that this cosplay of is Shining Blade from Guild Wars 2 absolutely amazing! The level of details on every part of the costume and its overall design is stunning. And all of this thanks to one person – Enayla, a computer science student from New York, who is into cosplaying in her spare time. Make sure to give a Like to Enayla’s Facebook page if you have a Facebook account, because she makes really cool costumes. Part on these photos – the ones agains interior backdrop - were shot by Darkain Multimedia at Fanime 2012, and the other part – the ones in a field – were shot by Shinichi Al Hayashi. Just yesterday i made this post about Alicia 2.0 Frontier test with lots of screenshots and info, and here i am back with more stuff about Alicia 2.0 (앨리샤 2.0). I accidentally stumbled upon a great source of Alicia 2.0 info stashed on a great Korean gaming website GameMeca, and among other things, they wrote a preview for the new version of Alicia Online based on the Frontier test i mention above. The preview has lots of info and screenshots, and i did my best to translate it. Alicia 2.0 Frontier Test – Screenshots and info from the new version of Alicia Online!

First of all, these screens belong to lovekimjy1, a Korean fan of Alicia Online, who participated in the “Frontier test” – the first time Alicia 2.0 was ever available to fans in late October. Unfortunately, i missed the whole thing and is forced to watch screenshots and videos made by other people like many of you have to. And Alicia Online’s English version is still haven’t even been mentioned anywhere, let alone released. We still do not know the release date of Japanese Alicia version, either. But these are sad matters, so let’s get back to something fun and take a look at all the new beautiful screenshots from Alicia 2.0 beta test! I tried my best to translate what lovekimjy1 said about each one of them.

Alicia Online Japanese version – Some info about Alicia Online in Japanese

Okay, first of all, don’t get your hopes too high, i don’t have a guide for you on how to register in the Japanese version of Alicia Online or even a tangible release date. But i was curious what the heck is taking those asians so long to launch the damn game, so i dig around and gathered some curious info about Alicia Online and its Japanese version. There IS a Japanese version, and it WILL be released at some point. By the way, Alicia Online’s name (at least, one of the names it has been called since 2009) in Japanese is this: “馬と私 の物語 アリシア” (something in the line of “Alicia: Story of My Horse”). Authors of “Psychonauts” and “Brutal legend” will develop game prototypes that based on gamers’ voting!

For years (exactly, since 2007), Double Fine – the video game developer who brought us Psychonauts and Brutal Legend titles – had been doing what they call “Amnesia Forthnight“: each year for two weeks all of the company’s employees would get away from whatever project they were working on, divide themselves into small teams and work on prototypes for new games. Some of these prototypes were chosen to become full games, but if in the past the person who chose which of those prototypes were to live and which to die was Tim Schafer, this year the privilege is now ours: gamers and fans. Yes, that’s right! Team members from Double Fine will publish video demos, and gamers will vote which of those will become actual prototypes. After the said forthnight – two weeks of non-stop coding – the prototypes will arrive to Humble Bundle, where users themselves decide how much they will pay for a download. The voting starts now, so watch the video from Double Fine for more details, and head off to Humble Bundle, because that’s where they’re putting these concepts we vote on!

Russian Federal Service for Drug Control bans Eve Online fan site

Oh, you are so gonna love this! Recently, Russian Federation made a new law “On information, information technologies and on defending of information” (№ 139-ФЗ, effective since 1 November), which allows government to create a database of blacklisted IP addresses of websites, that should be banned by ALL ISPs in the country (YES, they ban content by IPs, and nearly banned YouTube a couple of weeks ago). The websites to be banned are those containing child pornography, tips on how to suicide, information about narcotics and generally “bad for children” content (i.e. any website at all). A couple of days ago, Russian Federal Service for Drug Control blacklisted Eve Online fan site because they had an instruction on how to use VIRTUAL drugs in a VIRTUAL world to boost VIRTUAL character’s abilities. Whew! I can’t believe i made it so far! :))) Thought, the first blog post went live on 10/14/2010 (and got 12 views :)) there could have been many more posts than mere 200, i am not a blogging Terminator spewing 10-20 posts per day, so it really IS a huge number for me :) Thanks you all for reading this blog! I hope we all are having some fun here and I’m not boring you to death, lol :) Okay, there are some stats behind the cut, saved for the generations to come. Best Cat Cosplay Ever!

This is the best cat cosplay I’ve ever seen! Here’s the story: the cat’s name is Guagua (“瓜瓜”) and it was Guagua’s birthday celebration for which its owner, a user named toshiya86 from a Chinese blogging service Weibo (to see her page, unfortunately, you have to be registered in Weibo) drew these characters on cardboard.

I personally don’t think that sticking a cat’s head into dozens of small holes in cardboard pieces is the best birthday present ever, but the resulting pictures are awesome nonetheless. Characters and amine included in this awesome “cosplay” – Christine Mi, Dino, Gold Sparkle, Kiki’s Delivery Service, QB, Green Drive, the Old Anchor, Gintama and Naruto.

Gamer Spent REAL $2 500 000 on a virtual property in a “free to play” MMO – the biggest online shopping spree ever?

I guess we all already know that “free to play” games aren’t free at all and are built to lure people into spending hundreds and thousands of dollars on virtual good, but this guy took it on a whole new level. An anonymous player of Entropia Universe by Calipso Games (a total suckage of a game where ALL in-game items are sold for hard cash, i repeat that, ALL) had sealed a deal of spending $2,5 MILLIONS of REAL dollars on 25,000 virtual pieces of land, each sold for $100. Tell me about the biggest shopping spree ever. But, turns out, this may actually be a clever investment move (unless Calipso goes belly up in the nearest future).
