Blizzard reports World of Warcraft hits 12 million subscribers worldwide

Blizzard reports World of Warcraft hits 12 million subscribers worldwideAccording to Eurogamer, Chinese launch of the the World of Warcraft’s expansion Wrath of the Lich King led to astonishing numbers: over than 12 millions people subscribed to WOW. Blizzard says this number covers everyone who had been online even once in the past 30 days and did not include the cancelled or expired subscriptions and anyone who played using any promotional types of subscriptions (i.e. trials and the like).

“The support and enthusiasm that gamers across the world continue to show for World of Warcraft reaffirms our belief that it offers one of the best entertainment values available today,” said Blizzard co-founder and CEO Mike Morhaime.

I would only imagine the numbers of gold farmers that fell into these 12 millions, but even excluding them the player base of WOW is astonishing. To compare the numbers, a whole population of Lebanon is around 4 millions, and Russia’s capitol city Moscow is said to house around 15-17 millions. WOW player base is already as large as a several small countries taken together, and comparable to some world’s top megalopolises. Isn’t it amazing? Sure thing the numbers would grow after WOW’s third expansion Cataclysm is released in China.

Here’s WOW: Cataclysm Announcement Trailer, an interesting thing to see:
