This blog is not what you expected.
No run-of-the-mill stream of online game reviews and associated advertising. No tips on how to earn WoW gold. And no shots of "me & my uber-guild killing an uber-boss in an uber-dungeon", either.
Why some games are better than others? What makes MMOs so addictive? How they make you pay all the time? What are those psychological and financial tricks behind the scene? The questions (and an assortment of other topics) are discussed in this blog by a female gamer and advertising specialist from Russia.

Tips&Tricks: How to download Alicia Online – step-by-step walkthrough

TipS&Tricks: How to download Alicia Online – step-by-step walkthrough Alicia Online is a cool Korean fantasy horse racing and I've been writing about it a lot. In the previous posts i told you how to register an account for Alicia Online (and also how to find KSSN). This post is the next step – how to download the game after you created an account for yourself. Before downloading the game you’ll need to know that if you have Windows 7 it must be either Enterprise or Ultimate versions, or you won’t be able to play. I’ll explain why at the end of this post. And now, how do you go about downloading Alicia Online?

*INTERMISSION"*

I’ve decided to create Alicia Online Wiki site for all of us to share information about Alicia. Just finished setting it up yesterday, and it’s pretty much empty right now (except for the guides i have in this blog, they were copied over to Wiki), so I’m asking everyone to please come and join me at Alicia Online Wiki site and help fill it up! If you have anything to share, post it!

First thing, open up Internet Explorer and go to Alicia Online website main page and login into your account in the box to your left (This and the next screenshots can be viewed at larger size if clicked), and after you’re logged in, press Game Start button. We’re using IE because it’s the only way to make sure nothing goes wrong with the scripts – Alicia Online’s website has been made for IE only.

When you do it for the first time, you will proceed to create a character. Each account can have only one character, but you can have up to 3 accounts for 1 KSSN (presuming they’re not taken already). Press the orange button to go to the next page.

Choose your character’s gender by clicking on one of the figures.

Now you need to customize your character’s appearance. Just play with the slides, their meanings are pretty obvious. When you’re ready to go, click the orange button.

Now, name your character. Yes, you can use Latin letters.

When you’re finished, you will be asked to download a GTLInstall2.exe, save it somewhere and then run. After it’s installed, you can begin downloading the game.

There seems to be two ways to do that.

First, is when you press the big Start button again you will be taken to the game launching landing page – the top button takes you back to the main page and the bottom one will re-launch the game. TipS&Tricks: How to download Alicia Online – step-by-step walkthrough

Then the thing you’ve installed will begin downloading the game’s files, but i found that if you close it accidentally all the progress will be deleted.

Note that it doesn’t displays Korean characters on this screenshot, because Korean language pack is not yet properly installed in my system and its settings are using Russian characters as a base language. It’s not important at this stage.

Another – and more reliable way to download client is by going to the download page. First two button are for the client download.

Hurray! The client is loading!

Note that it may take a significant amount of time to download the game – some people finish in a few hours, some in a day or even more. Probably it depends on how trafficked are ISP lines between you and the place where Alicia Online servers are.

After you finished the game will install and check if everything is up to date.

And this screenshot now shown a proper Korean type!

So, what’s the deal about Windows 7?

If you haven’t noticed, Alicia Online is a Korean game. And thus, it’s supposed to be played on a computer that has a Korean language pack installed – font support and all that. You can’t play if you don’t have it installed and set as your system language, the game simply won’t run.

The thing with Windows 7 is, that only Ultimate and Enterprise versions support language packs installing. If you have Win7 Home or anything else below Ultimate, you will not be able to install Korean language pack and play the game.

There is nothing to be done about that, sorry. Well, except if you have another WIn7 or a copy of XP somewhere, that is.

First, to register you need a KSSN – Korean Social Security Number. How to find a KSSN i wrote in this post. Search for KSSN in Google or download a list of KSSNs from somewhere, just if you can’t find one right away – don’t get desperate, i spent more than an hour today to get one.

Open Alicia Online registration page from here. Use Internet Explorer to make sure everything will be working as it needs to be!

Mark every checkbox checked and press the button (this and the following screenshots can be viewed in higher resolution by clicking on them):

You will be taken to a page where you need to enter name and KSSN you have found.

NOTE: If KSSN is wrong or not valid, you will see either of these messages:

Tips & Tricks: How to register an account in a Korean game – finding KSSN (Korean Social Security Number)

Tips & Tricks: How to register an account in a Korean game – finding KSSN (Korean Social Security Number) Good new, everyone © :) I’m back on track and in the process of figuring out how to register an account in Alicia Online (the cool Korean fantasy horse racing game). Some of the information i found is also applicable to other Korean games, if there are any fancy to join but don’t know how to register an account or a Korean game. This post is covering the most basic subject – how to find a KSSN (Korean Social Security Number) which is required to create an account for any of the present Korean games. If that is what you’re looking for, keep reading the post!

What is a KSSN?

Korean Social Security Number is issued by Korean government to every human being in South Korea, it’s their passport numbers. You can’t fake it, only use an already existing one that belongs to someone in Korea.

Is using a KSSN legal?

Of course it is not. It’s like using someone else’s passport in USA, or something. But unless you’re going to Korea tomorrow i don’t see how that would hurt anyone, because, hey, we’re using these people’s KSSNs to play online games, not to rob a bank! There are several downsides, though:

1. You need to use a KSSN that belong to a person 18-15 years old, if it belongs to somebody older your account will need confirmation with that person’s real life documents or by a phone. If you fail to do that (and you will fail), your account will be deleted after some time.

2. If that person whose KSSN you’ve been using decides to play the same game, they will see your account created with their data and could claim it as their own. Because, technically, it IS their account.

But still, until a certain game is released in English for the Western audience, we have only two choices: either use a KSSN or not play that game at all.

So, how does one goes to find a KSSN?

Method number 1:

Open a Korean version of either Google, Yahoo or Baidu. These links will open a search with certain keywords already present.

Tips & Tricks: How to register an account in a Korean game – finding KSSN (Korean Social Security Number)  - means KSSN in Korean. xxxxxx are date of birth, 06/17/1983 will look like "830617". The one used in this example has probably already been used a lot, by the way.

Use some other dates of birth for people around 15-18 years and look what the search engines will give you. I prefer using Google because it is able to translate the results right away. For example, let’s assume you’ve found a string of text like this one:

Tips & Tricks: How to register an account in a Korean game – finding KSSN (Korean Social Security Number) - it’s the name of that person whose KSSN you have found. Usually Korean names consist of 3 complex hieroglyphs made of several syllable character.

Method number 2:

There are several KSSN generators made for faking KSSN, but “faking” in this case only means you’re generating a KSSN that hopefully belong to an alive person and hasn’t been used for this particular game by someone else.

Method number 3:

Search Google’s English version for KSSN and narrow the results by viewing only the entries for last month or a few weeks, i.e. the fresh one only. Look if anyone is posting a list of KSSN numbers – they leak out from Korean Internets from time to time. Just make sure it’s not some kind of a scam that requires you to finish a paying survey to download the list, or something like that. And make sure the list is fresh, otherwise the chances of every KSSN being already taken by someone are much higher.

Method number 4: - Update, added 10.07.11

Run a search for “KSSN list” or something similar on Google. It will probably show you a bunch of scam websites and YouTube videos asking to finish some test where they’ll ask for money, but along with all that crap you will certainly get a link or two to a real KSSN list. Sometimes people “on the other side” get a hold of a list of people’s KSSNs and post it online for others to use. Just make sure you set your search results to be a month or less old and that you’re not downloading some virus or trojan. Worked for me.

Most of the KSSN you’ll find will not work, either because they’re already registered by their owners or by some other internet lurkers like you, but if you keep searching long enough and you’ll find a working KSSN sooner or later!

Off-Topic: Announcement here! :) (and some pics)

Me and my bloodsucking diploma "in print". And yes, that is some scuba stuff stashed in a box behind me. Hello, just wanted to let everyone who are reading the blog but are not watching my twitter feed, that Chick Geek Games has *not* being abandoned or something. I’ve been progressing towards my graduation from the university i attend and at some point i just stopped having free time to write anything. Hell, i barely had time to finish my work… As of June 17 i passed my final graduation exam (yay for me!), the next big thing is the defense of my graduation project (the diploma) which will be at June 23. After that i expect to resume posting at somewhat steady pace, until i will have a vacation, if that is going to ever happen. …so, ugh, I’ve been mentioning that diploma of mine for months now, why would i be writing it for so long?

My theme was the analysis of Nissan brand image in printed advertising for 2007-2010 period (13 car models, 103 ads overall), i approached it from a few different angles, but nothing was working well until i realized i need to develop a whole new method of analysis for this task. So i had to start the practical part over from the scratch.

And of course my department’s dean absolutely had to appoint himself as my reviewer, to add additional pressure to the whole endeavor. The whole finished work turned out to be 33800 words long, written with my very blood. With pictures and charts 195 A4 pages. That bloody thing is as trick as my thumb! The horror!

Looks how thick the damned thing is!

Well, at least I impressed the dean, received the highest grade and got my department buzzing with how cool i turned out to be (would be very frustrating if i didn’t after all the extra effort). Yes, this is a shameless self-promotion.
