Yesterday, as you probably know, Star Wars: The Old Republic was finally and officially launched. The early access allowed many players to start as long as a week before the official launch (and many are said to reach the level cap in such a short time), still the swarm of players attacking Bioware servers is almost unprecedented. With as many 200 servers, players are to spend up to 2 hours (!!) waiting in a line to login! Bioware is saying they’re treating the problem very seriously, but can’t guarantee the lack of lines just yet. To try and control the flow of new players the sales of SW:TOR at Origin were ceased for some time. With such an influx of players, would Star Wars: The Old Republic be a real competitor for World of Warcraft? (more…)

Yeah, it is. When someone tells you’re an MMO addict, you usually answer them with “nay, there’s no such thing like a video game addiction” and go play World of Warcraft. And at that point you are absolutely… wrong! Since the news of WOW hitting “12 millions of players” mileage had come, i feel i should start getting onto my blog’s main theme – what games do to make you play day and night and spent money. According to Eurogamer, Chinese launch of the the World of Warcraft’s expansion Wrath of the Lich King led to astonishing numbers: over than 12 millions people subscribed to WOW. Blizzard says this number covers everyone who had been online even once in the past 30 days and did not include the cancelled or expired subscriptions and anyone who played using any promotional types of subscriptions (i.e. trials and the like). “Buy WOW Gold Cheap”, “Buy Maple Story Mesos”, etc. – we, as gamers, are practically plagued by the ads like these. We see them inside the Google AdSence rotation, we are spammed with them while playing our games and reading our emails… More on that, many of us are directly abused by gold farmers and their in-game activity like robbing us of good spots and top-rated mobs. Still, I’m sure i would be safe to say, that even if you didn’t buy in-game currency, someone you know did that, and maybe more than once.
