Only a few days ago i wrote a post “Should I Play Vanguard In 2011?” Yes, And Here’s Why: Vanguard Myths Debunked – Myth №2: Vanguard is not upgraded and there is no new content – and here we go with another “Bug Bash!” patch from the new Vanguard development team! I am going to Egypt tomorrow (27.08), and from the rate of their work i expect to probably see another patch when i come back :) Keep reading the post if you want to see Vanguard: Saga of Heroes patch notes for bug fix update from August 24, 2011. I am very pleased by them myself because i play Warrior and it got an increase in DPS. (more…)

You’ve probably never played Vanguard (or if you did – you don’t play anymore), but you definitely heard about it. I’ve met people on Twitter and over the Internets who said they’d play – but because the game was such a big fail it’s “not playable”, and why even try, when “there’s no one in there?”. There’s an initiative by Vanguard players to bring new people into the game, so i wanted to write this post for quite some time now – to disband some common myths formed around Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, and to let people know not only that it’s a great game, but also why it’s worth playing after all the bad stuff you might have heard. So, read on and let me open your eyes :) The previous post on this theme was: “Should I Play Vanguard In 2011?” Yes, And Here’s Why: Vanguard Myths Debunked – Myth №1: No One Plays Vanguard”. (more…)

Yes, you heard this right. Vanguard: Saga of Heroes has received an upgrade for the first time in a looong time! Not a very big upgrade, it’s just fixing a few quest & items’ bugs, but it’s actually a more important thing… An indication of Vanguard receiving some care from SOE and a confirmation of what has been said a month ago at the last Fan Faire about future plans for Vanguard. I believe, this patch is what the Vanguard dev team were able to finish since then, and let’s hope they’ll keep coming up with more patches.
Also, here’s an unofficial Vanguard trailer that has been made just a couple of months ago by Faeran from VGWalkthroughs.com:
He actually sums up everything that i like in this game. (more…)

These weekend is really busy for gamers! Besides from RIFT Open Beta going on, two good games are also providing bonuses: Lord of the Rings Online is Welcome Back Event February 17-21, and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes is providing Bonus Experience Weekend February 18-22. Though, Vanguard bonus % is not directly stated – announcement only mentions that the bonus will be applied to all Crafting, Diplomacy and Adventuring activity. At the same time LOTRO players are promised to get +10% XP bonus on monster kill and 250 free Turbine Points for returning customers (i.e. for old characters). I bet both games are trying to lure audience out of RIFT events and back into business. To put something more amusing in this post there are two videos from the both games – how LOTRO players managed to crash the server before Siege of Mirkwood launch and “Tribute to Vanguard” player compilation video. Watch them behind the cut. (more…)

I know i had a post about Vanguard quests less than 24 hours ago, but i can’t want with this one. For the first time i have stumbled upon a Vanguard quest that appeared to be bugged to the point it being totally unsolvable, but i still was able to solve it thanks to Vanguard GM team. When i understood that “Peculiar Fragments” quest is bugged (you can’t gather the quest objective items, because they aren’t active as quest items at all), i dropped it – because, based on my previous experience with online games if something is bugged, that’s the end of the story – and wrote “Found a bug” petition. After 15 minutes (!) a GM materialized out of thin air and gave me those quest objective items. For the first time in my whole online gamer’s life a GM was so fast to respond, so i can’t just leave this case unnoticed. Thank you again, Vanguard GM Exerege! (more…)

This post is following Tips & Tricks On Solving Isle Of Dawn Quests post. I’m still playing Vanguard as I’m out of Isle of Dawn I’ll resume writing about quests that were hard to solve – the only thing that changes now is that i will publish separate posts for these quests, divided by areas – as i don’t know how often i will encounter such hard quests. This post is about rather nasty Vanguard quest in Halgarad area, Thestra continent – Blood and Seals and The Unfinished Mission. (more…)

Using mounts in Vanguard: Saga of Heroes might be a slight problem for the beginning players, because, as every other aspect of gameplay of Vanguard using mounts is slightly harder than in other MMOs that we’re used to. Even providing that Vanguard trial zone – the Isle of Dawn – is packed with the tutorial, it still may be not 100% clear or you may have forgotten, what it told you. Fear not, using mounts in Vanguard is not as hard as it seems, especially when you read this post! (more…)

This post is here to provide a quick tips on handling quests in Vanguard: Saga of Heroes starter/trial area called Isle of Dawn. This one is Part 2 of the initial post (it grew too big to upgrade each time) and holds mainly crafting quests. As i have started to play Vanguard over again with a fresh character, I’m trying to write about those quests that may raise a question on how to find a solution and what should you do in case if a miracle happened and you started playing Vanguard too. If you haven’t found a particular quest, chances are it’s been already covered in Part 1 here, because i write notes in order of progress. If i find something else to add, this post will either be upgraded or a link to a next one will be added. (more…)

This post is here to provide a quick tips on handling quests in Vanguard: Saga of Heroes starter/trial area called Isle of Dawn. Since the last big wiki for Vanguard quest and crafting (Vanguard Crafters) had been taken down (November, 2010) with all the information that Vanguard players had been gathering (– thanks to the site’s owner who refuses to provide anyone else with the wiki’s copy to host on our own) it is now up to the players to figure everything on their own. As i have started to play Vanguard over again with a fresh character, I’ll try to write about those that i had problems with: how i found a solution and what should you do in case if a miracle happened and you started playing Vanguard. If you do not see a particular quest here, chances are it’s being covered in Part 2 of this post. (more…)

This is Part 3 of the story of Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. A story of the fail that really was famous in it’s days, the story of a game that was pretty much fail at the beginning of its life – but got fixed, patched and in time became a real gem that would shine if this game was released, say, last or this year – but not many people know about it. Because if you fail once, it’s almost impossible to avert the damage (and Square Enix is learning this lesson now too, i bet). So, we all heard it was a big fail, right? But how and why did it happened in the first place? And why now I’m calling this game “a gem” when you probably heard no one plays it now? (more…)

Previously i wrote the Famous Fails tag for those games that look famous and popular, but in truth – if you look closely – they are actually a pretty bad choice to play. Now, this is a different story.
