Minions Of Mirth – Forging a Dream: How a Two Person Team Has Created the Best Indie MMORPG Out There

Minions Of Mirth - Forging a Dream: How a Two Person Team Has Created the Best Indie MMORPG Out ThereMinions of Mirth is a F2P Indie MMORPG made by Prairie Games, released back in 2005 and still alive and kicking. The game is currently available for an assortment of platforms, including Windows, Mac OS X and netbooks. But what means “Indie MMORPG”, you might be asking? It means that Minions of Mirth was created without a development studio, without a publisher or its major funding, by a team less than small – Prairie Games had only 2 (yes, TWO – a married couple, actually) full-time staff members and several outsourcing specialists, but they were able to create and release a fully working MMO title. Have you ever had a dream of creating your own game? Well, this couple had a dream too, and they forged it with their own hands, making it true and alive. And this is the story of how it was possible. (more…)

Busy Weekends: Welcome Back Weekend at Lord of the Rings Online and Bonus Experience Weekend at Vanguard: Saga of Heroes

Busy Weekends: Welcome Back Weekend at Lord of the Rings Online and Bonus Experience Weekend at Vanguard: Saga of HeroesThese weekend is really busy for gamers! Besides from
RIFT Open Beta going on, two good games are also providing bonuses: Lord of the Rings Online is Welcome Back Event February 17-21, and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes is providing Bonus Experience Weekend February 18-22. Though, Vanguard bonus % is not directly stated – announcement only mentions that the bonus will be applied to all Crafting, Diplomacy and Adventuring activity. At the same time LOTRO players are promised to get +10% XP bonus on monster kill and 250 free Turbine Points for returning customers (i.e. for old characters). I bet both games are trying to lure audience out of RIFT events and back into business. To put something more amusing in this post there are two videos from the both games – how LOTRO players managed to crash the server before Siege of Mirkwood launch and “Tribute to Vanguard” player compilation video. Watch them behind the cut. (more…)

Alicia Online: Korean Release, Music Video And Promotional IU Footage

Alicia Online: Korean Release, Music Video And Promotional IU Footage  First of all, i’m not speaking about Alicia Online English release date, click the link to read what i know about it. Today’s news is that Alicia Online’s Korean release date is coming close, the pre-release Open Beta appears to be starting 10 February, 2010. Confirmed by Alicia Online twitter account and official website. Happy Koreans are having an Opening Party, it’s a total shame no one else can attend, but we can celebrate Korean release our own way! There are music video leaked out of the Korean Internets to YouTube featuring Alicia Online OST performed by Korean teenage diva IU. She’s Alicia Online “face” – being a very popular singer amongst the young adult audience, she was invited to record the game’s OST and do some promotional footage. As far as i can hear, she’s also actually not bad at doing the singing part! You can listen to Alicia Online OST for free legally and online on this official page, and here’s the music video (IU even plays the game in it): (more…)

Fantasy Earth Zero Is Shutting Down – Square Enix Is Pulling The Plug March 21

Fantasy Earth Zero Is Shutting Down - Square Enix Is Pulling The Plug March 21Fantasy Earth Zero by Square Enix is an (obviously) fantasy-themed free-to-play RPG game featuring massive PVP battles, that was released less than a year ago – May 18, 2010 (publisher in USA – Gamepot). The sad news is that Square Enix is pulling the plug: the game is to be shut down at March 21, i.e., after only 10 months after re-release. I assume, SE are trying to cut their losses on MMO department while FFXIV is being “fixed”. A sad news for Fantasy Earth Zero players, indeed. GM Pasta has published a heartwarming message on FEZ official website plus now it shows a large, detailed notice of the events coming before the closing date. You can see both the notice and the message at the end of the post. Besides, i also wanted to add that I’m saddened myself, because when an MMO shuts down it’s a sad event, no matter if the game itself was bad or good. When a “normal” game bites the dust, you still can salvage a CD after, like, 15 years and play it or show to someone else, but when an MMO dies, there’s no going back, no chance to see the game again. It’s becoming a part of history. (more…)

Lime Odyssey: New Screenshots From Actual Gameplay

Lime Odyssey: New Screenshots From Actual Gameplay. This is Lime Odyssey login screen, by the way.I’ve stumbled across some new screenshots of Lime Odyssey just now, so i’m sharing them with you :) Lime Odyssey is an MMORPG developed by some members of the original Ragnarok Online development team, in Western market it is going to be published by Aeria Games. “The Sirius team has, for the last few years, poured their hearts and souls into the development of Lime Odyssey and the final result is a beautiful, well-balanced MMORPG, with a unique combination of rich role-playing features and robust gameplay. We expect it to be one of the best games of 2011.” says CEO of Aeria Games. I wrote about this game earlier here (more Lime Odyssey screenshots) and here (Lime Odyssey review based on Korean beta testers opinions). (more…)

Ace Online / Air Rivals Review: A Breath Of Sci-Fi Air In A Land Of Fantasy Games

Ace Online / Air Rivals Review: A Breath Of Sci-Fi Air In A Land Of Fantasy GamesI haven’t done much reviewing lately, and it’s time to fix that. I’d write about RIFT betas, but my latest posts were all about RIFT, like the ones with
RIFT beta screenshots, so i have to write about something else. And “something else” this time is ACE Online. Also known as Space Cowboy Online, Ace Online International and AirRivals, the game was made by MasangSoft Inc. and first released back in 2006 – it had a lot of publishers since then, right now they are GameForge4D (Europe) and Suba Games, LLC (North America). Whether it is a good game or not – we shall find out, but at least this game stands out of the mass, because it’s being described as free to play PVP Sci-Fi MMO 3D Space Shooter. That’s right, spaceships instead of elves – so even if it’s a grindfeast, at least it’s not a standard one! (more…)

Divine Souls Review: Open Beta First Impression

Divine Souls Review: Open Beta First ImpressionDivine Souls is a free-to-play fantasy action MMO developed by Korean team GamePrix and released be Outspark, which is currently undergoing an open beta stage. And this game is some really rare weird shit, i must tell you! Their current slogan is “your console will be jealous” and that is really true, because Divine Souls is a console action made into an MMO and released on PC. I can only guess what weird stuff they were high on that made them release a game made for consoles on PC, instead of Xbox or PS3, and why they made it into an MMO in the first place. So, this game gave me a really mixed feeling… Being a console-style has both its pluses and minuses, so here’s my first impression on this game, if you’re interested. Upd.: if you came searching for Divine Souls bugs, read Divine Souls: Are Beta Bugs Driving You Crazy too? post here. (more…)

Alicia Online \ Project Alice: Current State Of An English Release (2010)

Alicia Online Project Alice: Current State Of An English ReleaseAlicia Online (aka Project Alice) by GameTree is an online fantasy horse racing game currently getting ready to be released in Korea and I mentioned it in this post, where you can find game’s videos before. We – who joined its Korean beta or just saw the videos and loved the game – are all curious if this game is going to be released on English and when will that happen. I know from the statistics that many people come to this blog searching for Alicia Online English release news, and here i have some for you!

Divine Souls Is Going Open Beta December 14!

Divine Souls Is Going Open Beta December 14!Divine Souls is a free-to-play Action-Fighting MMORPG developed by GamePrix and published by Outspark, that is said to “make your console jealous”. Game’s background story is build up on a mixture of fantasy with a light addition of science fiction (mages travelling on spaceships, that sort of thing), so the world seems to be at least different comparing to those average MMOs we got around. Looking at the game footage, Divine Souls is supposed to be offering rich console-like action that is also hard to be found in average MMO, plus it would be possible to play with gamepad – ??? – don’t know how it turns out, but i want to check it out! Divine Souls open beta starts in just 4 days – December 14, so don’t miss it. See the game’s screenshots and video under the cut. (more…)

Lime Odyssey: Preview – First Thoughts Based On Korean Beta Test Responses

Lime Odyssey: Preview - First Thoughts Based On Korean Beta Test ResponsesI have seen a huge boost in incoming visitors after posting about
Lime Odyssey being scheduled for release by Aeria Games. To tell the truth, I’ve totally missed out this game – had not played it in either closed or open beta, and barely even heard of it before Aeria came out of the shadows. So, I’ve done some digging around Korean and Japanese forums and blogs to make up for my unawareness, and here is an averaged out opinion of those who had played it during Korean beta testing phases, combined with my own opinion, based on videos, screenshots and available information. Consider it a preview, because, like, who else will tell us about it, other than beta-testers? Beta-testers do not lie (Square Enix is learning to understand that now). (more…)

ARGO Online: A Hybrid Between Steampunk And Fantasy MMORPG

Here comes another foreign game I’d like to play – ARGO Online. It has been released in Korea just recently and raised a lot of hype, because this game combines both fantasy and steampunk settings in one world.

iPad Online Games: Castle Craft Review

iPad Online Games: Castle Craft ReviewI recently got an iPad and found out there are some games for it involving online play, i named a few here. I’ve already reviewed Aurora Feint 3 here, have to finish the business with those other games. CastleCraft is an fantasy PVP MMORTS by Freeverse, Inc. and (supposedly) compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. I liked the graphics and the fantasy idea as a whole, but i was put on guard by several reviews blaming this game for non-existent customer support and myriads of annoying bugs. I can totally confirm both these points. And it’s really a shame, because if Freeverse ever fixes the critical bugs and starts listening to player base’s problems, then Castle Craft would become a fine game indeed. (more…)

Ace Online: Early 2008 Advertisement Is A Copy Of Mazda MX-5 2007 Campaign? Pretty much…

Ace OnlineAlong with other stuff I’m currently playing Ace Online. It’s a free-to-play space shooter sci-fi pvp mmorpg – ship flying mechanics is a lot like the one in Freelancer, where you point where to fly and to shoot with a mouse and use keyboard for additional options. You may know this game under different names – Space Cowboy Online, Ace Online International, AirRivals or even Phi Doe (if you’re Vietnamese, that’s it :). Ace Online title came out re-released somewhere in 2008, so came the new ads for the game (i think it was before Suba Games got it). I find it amusing that the advertisement they used in 2008, for example, for Korean and Thailand versions is almost an exact copy of earlier Mazda MX-5 2007 campaign. I thought, I’d share with you the pics. (more…)
