Rift Planes Of Telara Tips And Tricks: How To Subscribe In A Specific Currency Of Your Choice And Get Game Cheaper

Rift Planes of TelaraThis is a little tip to whoever else is pre-ordering RIFT: Planes of Telara now. As you may know, RIFT has 3 different prices: in Dollars, Euros and Pounds: $ 49.99 / € 49.99 / £ 34.99 (for Digital Standard Edition, for example). But when you try to buy RIFT, you’re not being offered to choose which currency you want to pay in, and when you have to subscribe after buying the same, they also don’t ask what currency you want to subscribe in – they just try to shove it up your… wallet, that’s it. I was offered to pay in Euros but wanted Dollars instead, so i contacted RIFT Support and now guess what did they said? “You will have to use Euros” because “we do not have the ability to change your billing currency”. WTF, how can’t they control their own system!? Well, the hell with dumb support, i did it for them and subscribed in Dollars, not Euros. If you need to do the same, you came to the right place.

Okay, first, a little explanation to the most naive of you – why would anyone want to buy something in a specific currency?

Let’s see, i live in Russian Federation, so we have Roubles here, and they have an exchange rates for both Dollars and Euros. These rates vary between each other – for example, today’s exchange rates are as following:
USD 30.3505
EUR 40.4876

Obviously, $ 49.99 and € 49.99 are very different prices, let’s do some math here:
$ 49.99 * 30.35 = 1228.8715
€ 49.99 * 40.48 = 2023.5952
Difference is 794.7237 = which is $ 26.18.

This means, if i pay € 49.99 it will be $ 76.17. I don’t want to pay that much if i can pay just $ 49.99, now. All the same thing goes for subscription rates – paying in Dollars is cheaper for me.

Have you considered in what currency is your best choice of RIFT subscription price lies, yet?
Probably, if you read this, you did by now.

So how do you buy RIFT if it’s being sold in the wrong currency?
Just get off the RIFT website and go to a 3rd-party reseller – Direct2Drive sells it in different currencies depending on which site you choose: USA, UK or whatever. Steam also sells RIFT for Dollars.

Let’s assume, you’ve got your RIFT key and is going to apply it the website. When i went, they offered me to pay in Euros and Support had just waved me away with their Wand of Stupidity that every Customer Support worker has at hand. I had Russia set as my country, and they count that as Euro zone, and i should be glad they let us in their Europe, actually, because Euro News weather forecast doesn’t – but at this case i wasn’t glad, because Euros cost more.

What did i do?

I changed my country to North America. And voila! There are the Dollars. Then i have set Russia as my billing address again, and it got finally registered:
The subscription plan you have chosen: 3 Month Subscription @ $35.97

We’ll have to see if they’ll have any problems charging me money, but how the hell can’t i have my billing address anywhere in the world? Maybe, i’m overseas student who’s daddy is going to pay for everything, har har har! Ooops, was that a pirate laugh? :)
